CranioSacral Therapy

Grass and sun picture

CranioSacral Therapy is a gentle yet profound therapy.  It creates a subtle internal balancing; a centering of the whole system. This influences structure and function, including bones and muscles, membrane and connective tissue, nerves and organs and vital fluids and life force energies at the same time.

It is a healing process which can influence deeply held patterns of disease - both the physical and psychological effects that can accumulate throughout life and become held within the body and the psyche - leading to ill-health and disease.

Its effects are cumulative.  Working progressively deeper it seeks to resolve the problems that underlie the cause of ill-health.

It uses an approach to treating the individual as a whole.  It is patient-led, working with the body as a whole and its self-regulating abilities.  It seeks to access the force for health that is ever present in an individual.

What to expect during a CranioSacral Therapy session

During a CranioSacral Therapy session the client wears soft, loose clothing.  The therapist places her hands at various strategic parts of the body, usually the spine and head, to tune into and commune with the deepest, most fundamental patterns within our systems. Most people find it pleasurable and deeply calming.

Effects of the treatment

Patients report changes to do with state of mind, energy levels and an overall sense of wellbeing.

Within this framework both chronic and acute conditions can be helped.

Other Therapies

A combination of approaches is used:

CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is my main therapy.  It is a holistic core therapy.  It uses gentle, non-invasive touch to tune into the CranioSacral Rhythm (also known as the primary Respiratory Impulse).  This triggers the body's self-healing potential to stimulate a rebalancing of the whole system.

Deep Tissue Massage

The benefits of massage

Increased circulation and flexibility

Massage increases circulation and flexibility, increases detoxification and promotes health

Massage increases lubrication between muscle fibres and allows the muscle to move optimally. When muscles dry out, the fibres stick together and the muscle becomes stiff. As fluid is reintroduced, the muscle softens and regains its flexibility. Circulation increases between the muscle fibres, so that nutrients reach the cells and toxins are carried off more efficiently. A combination of increased intake of water and massage helps with this.

Massage increases circulation. Degenerative diseases are anaerobic and cannot live in an oxygenated environment. Blood carries oxygen to the cells. Good circulation is necessary for optimal health. Increased circulation increases oxygen to the cells.

Healing touch

Healing touch helps revitalise body and mind. It aids relaxation and creates a sense of comfort and well being

Massage creates a sense of being cared for, of being nurtured. Human touch connects one person to another and the feelings shared are healing and energizing emotionally. Safe touch is an important part of life. Massage by a responsible professional is a relaxing way to enjoy safe touch.

Looking at touch therapies from a physics point of view, electromagnetic energy is transferred from the giver to the receiver and back. This energy transfer cannot be duplicated by gadgets or machines. The oriental cultures call this energy Chi´ or life energy. This human energy transfer is an important part of the healing process.

A US clinical study conducted by the University of Miami School of Medicine, touchresearch.com showed that massage increases mental alertness and accuracy.
